Joe Dirt (David Spade) is a janitor with a mullet hairdo, acid-washed jeans and a dream -- to find the parents that he lost at the Grand Canyon when he was eight. As his wandering, misguided search takes him from one misadventure to another, he finds his way to Los Angeles, where a shock-jock (Dennis Miller) brings Joe on the radio to insult him. But as Joe's story unfolds, jeers turn to cheers, and an entire city is captivated.

Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Contrived yet unpretentious, predictable yet surprising, this underdog comedy and its title character have considerable charm. Feb 28, 2007 Full Review Marrit Ingman Austin Chronicle Sally forth, gentle viewer, and enjoy yourself. Rated: 1/4 Mar 19, 2002 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) In place of anything resembling a plot, the movie wheels-out a tired collection of set-piece gross-outs for Joe to endure. Stuart R It’s got its moments. Mixed-pass (nostalgic pleasure) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/01/24 Full Review Jonathan L This movie is not meant to be a Pearl Harbor, god father , Scarface or those top movies but seems like these rotten tomato professional reviewers expect this. This movie is about a journey of someone who is literally failing at everything yet stays so positive and just when he gives up everything ends up working out. The message of the movie goes over a lot of people’s heads because in order to relate you need to suffer through hard times and this will allow the meaning of the movie to be clearer. That being said it serves its purpose and probably one the best movies ever at doing it. A absolute cult classic , contains classic lines and scenes. Something to remember forever . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Cees T Crass, cringe, but nice. 6.9/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Frank F Released on 4/11/2001, this masterpiece was possibly the last straw on the "America is just getting too dang great" camel's back so to speak, that set off the fateful events five months later on 9/11, lest we forget. Now I've been known to mix a metaphor or two, but that shouldn't stop you from appreciating one of the great 'janitor as protagonist' pieces we have in American Culture. I wpuld rank them as such: 1. Charlie Work (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) Clearly the top artistic piece about a janitor, not much else to say here. 2. Half Baked starring Dave Chappelle "I myself am a master of the custodial arts, or a janitor if you wanna be a dick about it." 3. Joe Dirt starring David Spade Top three is pretty good IMHO 4. Good Will Hunting starring Matt Damon "How you like them apples?" Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/24 Full Review Paul M YOU DON’T HAVE NO WHISTIN' BUNGHOLES NO SPLEEN SPLITTERS NO WHISKER BISCUITS, HONKEY LIGHTERS, HOOSKER DOOS, HOOSKER DON'TS, CHERRY BOMBS, NIPSY DAISERS… WITH OR WITHOUT THE SCOOTER STICK… OR ONE SINGLE WHISTLIN' KITTY CHASER? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/24 Full Review Audience Member I’m just here triggered at the trolls that rated this so low on here Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
