Kevin Maher Times (UK) Finally, 27 years after unleashing Jean-Claude Van Damme on the world, Kickboxer, the martial arts franchise that refuses to die, is boldly rebooted with the supremely silly Kickboxer: Vengeance. Rated: 2/5 Oct 10, 2016 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian This lean, unpretentious entertainment delivers everything one might want from a film titled Kickboxer: Vengeance - including, at the last, an homage to the younger Van Damme's disco-dancing prowess. Rated: 3/5 Sep 29, 2016 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News "Kickboxer: Vengeance" isn't going to raise anyone's SAT score, but it's passable in the realms of kickboxing cinema and will hold your attention during late-night cable viewing. Rated: C+ Sep 2, 2016 Full Review James Mudge easternKicks.com Van Damme and Bautista are certainly the main reasons to watch Kickboxer: Vengeance, and help make it an enjoyable piece of old fashioned martial arts fun Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 1, 2020 Full Review Andrew Gaudion THN This reboot takes itself far too seriously, and ends up being more of a dour experience, lacking in anything all that fun or memorable. Rated: 2/5 Aug 30, 2020 Full Review Dominic Griffin Spectrum Culture Maybe in the next one, we can cut out the middle man and watch Van Damme's Durand train someone with more personality than a cup of tapioca. William D Great movie. Anyone who is a fan of the original Kickboxer movie would love this movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/07/23 Full Review Liam D A boring but silly continuation to a movie that was cheesy but still silly in a fun way Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/22 Full Review Audience Member I thought the movie was good overall as it was great to finally see the original characters from this series with Eric Sloane & Tong Po carried on and even had Jean-Claude play a part in this. Also great to see Tong Po's character played by big Dave Bautista who was quite the villain in this one. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review renaldo d Bad plot and editing, choreography and soundtrack is something that fits as worse than bad Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Tony S Remix of the original's story with a god awful pacing. The movie is speeding through plot points and fight scenes, filmed with shaky cam and using extensive slow-mo. Good stunts, when they are not cut up by the editing, with the exception of those rubber elephants, who thought that it wouldn't be noticeable. Most of the characters are wasted, Gina Carano's character, notably, feels like a dropped plot thread because of her minimal involvement with the plot. It's a mark of Kickboxer movie by this point, involve an actual professional fighter and make his/her character job on film. Moussi just isn't great and almost a charisma void. JCVD is here, refusing to remove shades and the hat. It's appreciated that he is given fight scenes too. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/22 Full Review cal d I loved this remake movie better than the original one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
