Audience Member Hilarious so-bad-its-funny film shlock. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the dorkiest movies I have seen But to bee fair... I didn't really watch much ;) Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member A fine adventure novel badly butchered. Based loosely indeed -- very loosely and quite badly. I watched it despite all the one star reviews because I usually enjoy Lance Henriksens performances even in really bad movies. This is one of those. He made a pretty good Long John Silver but few others in the movie showed any acting talent, although there efforts might have been better if the script hadnt been so bad. An awful movie, not adequately redeemed by Mr. Henriksens performance and a few really funny lines. I give it two stars instead of one for making me laugh a few times. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member It's just like a porn movie without the sex scenes. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member One should never look to The Asylum for top-of-the-line production values or acting skills and this one is not this studio's worst. But, like Roger Corman's New World Pictures a generation beforehand, The Asylum has a noticeable style and in spite of itself occasionally puts out some pretty entertaining fare in its mockbusters by accentuating the cheesy heart that the big studio blockbusters too often cut out (see "Transmorphers" and "Death Racers"). Unfortunately, "Pirates of Treasure Island" isn't very good on that level -- you don't get the Lance Hendriksen of the "Aliens" film here (much less, contra the film's title, Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow), you get the Lance Hendriksen of "Alien vs. Predator" instead. And apparently The Asylum paid the lion's share of its (low) budget to Mr. Hendriksen, because everything else (the acting, the props, the story, the editing, the sad excuses for sword fighting and insect villains as scary as Ernie's Rubber Duckie) is Z-grade. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Cheesy and badly acted, not very entertaining. Hokey plot, poor special effects. Only sporadically entertaining. Just a rip-off of the Pirates of the Carribean film series. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
