What to Know

Critics Consensus

It isn't quite as compelling as the earlier trilogy, but The Bourne Legacy proves the franchise has stories left to tell -- and benefits from Jeremy Renner's magnetic work in the starring role.

Monica Castillo Dig Boston This is not the Bourne sequel you were looking for. Sep 24, 2012 Full Review Leonard Maltin indieWire (Renner) has the required intensity and physicality to make his character-a highly-trained, genetically enhanced undercover agent-completely believable. Aug 24, 2012 Full Review Chris Stuckmann Moviedex The Bourne Legacy exists only as a failed attempt to squeeze more juice out of a once-reputable franchise, which is hardly a legacy worth leaving. Rated: 2.5 Aug 22, 2012 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson With all of the detail being presented of this new area taking place beside the previous timeline, The Bourne Legacy is a little overwhelming to follow. Rated: 3/5 Feb 16, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review When it’s all over, and we reflect on what was accomplished in The Bourne Legacy within the larger Bourne mythos, it’s clear this entry is a superfluous, if very entertaining ride. Rated: 3/4 Oct 3, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies While Gilroy does occasionally struggle matching up with earlier films, the movie definitely has its moments that nicely falls in line with the series. Gerald H I actually like Jeremy Renner‘s character in the franchise very very much. On the other hand, Rachel Weisz‘s character (as well as her acting) are an annoying catastrophe. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Alex L Characters aren’t as interesting or 3 dimensional as the main movies. Too much in the action than the spy movie Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Mark S The best of the series Brilliant beyond words the performance of Rachel Weiss Remner is superb Absolutely marvellous Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review Aileen D I thought this was the best of the Bourne series, which were tops overall. Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz had great chemistry and it was a fine supporting cast. Good stunts, generally credible plot, fine photography and direction. I don’t understand why the ratings were so low. I’ve seen the movie at least five times, I like the last line asking “are we lost?” because their good chemistry was so believable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/27/24 Full Review The_Matthew S I am in the few who love this film. Great action and thrilling set pieces. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/24 Full Review diana Jeremy and Rachel were phenomenal in this movie...no arrogant and over the top sentimentality nor unnecessay lengthy dialogue. Jeremy did the bulk of his stunts, and I watch it over and over again to see him walk a roof at an angle and then slide down the side of a building from the roof to save Rachel's character...clever and beautiful. Plus, in the end she saves him after he had gotten shot. The two had a sweet chemistry... nothing lewd or over the top. The other Bourne movies were very good, of course, but Legacy is very very special. It teaches survival and staying calm and focus when all hell breaks loose around you and respect for others.
