The Pippi Longstocking festival got underway in Velenje today.
This is the 35th edition of the Pippi Festival, named after Astrid Lindgren's famous children's book character.
This year's slogan is "Paint the World Green". The festival's director, Barbara Pokorny, explained that painting the world green means changing our habits and behaviors, and setting an example to younger children on how to be more environmentally friendly.
The Pippi Festival is Slovenia's largest children's festival and will run until the 13th of September. It will feature exhibitions, cultural events, games, and workshops, and will also be visited by President Pirc Musar and Olympic sports climbing champion Janja Garnbret.
