Slovenia officially assumes the presidency of the UN Security Council today.
The one-month presidency will coincide with September's General Assembly debate when world leaders will gather in New York.
During its presidency Slovenia will organize a high-level debate called Leadership for Peace which will be chaired by Prime Minister Robert Golob. The debate will discuss the relevance of the UN Security Council in an increasingly divided world.
Meanwhile Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon will chair a debate on Afghanistan focusing on women's rights, and a closed-door session with Arab League leaders at the end of September.
