Region III
Schools Division of Zambales
Municipality of Subic
ANINGWAY-SACATIHAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
I. Objective:
Enumerate the techniques in separating mixtures using magnet.
Unpacked Objective:
1. Identify mixtures which can be separated with the use of magnet
Science Concept: Mixtures which are composed of metals and non-metals can be
separated with the use of magnet. However, there are metallic
materials which are not attracted to magnets.
Materials: crumpled papers, cut plastics, leaves, nails, 5 peso coins, 1 peso
coins, plates, handkerchief, sticks, cups, magnets
III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Checking of Assignments
2. Science News/Trivia
Trivia about the man who invented magnet
4. Review
How do we use sifting?
What should we remember about the method of separating mixture using
sifting?
Engage
1. Motivation
Conducting a game called “Fact or Bluff”
They will be going to watch video clips about Magnetic Separation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGtV6ZDipEI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGC9v5z-CHc
The pupils will tell if the material which will be shown is a metal or nonmetal.
2. Identification of Materials
Let the pupils describe each material
3. Raising a problem
The teacher will assist the pupils to formulate the problem
How do we separate mixtures with metal materials?
Explore
The pupils will also be grouped using Fa-Ty group construction (Family-Type)
while doing the activities.
The activity will use the Jigsaw Technique with the following stations:
Explain
1. Reporting of outcomes
A member of each group will report the outcomes of their observations
2. Concept Formation
How do we separate mixtures with metal materials?
When can we only use magnets in separating mixtures?
What are the materials which are attracted to magnets?
Why did the 5 peso coin not attracted to magnet?
Class Discussion
Elaborate
1. Generalization
How do we separate mixtures with metal materials?
When can we only use magnets in separating mixtures?
What are the materials which are attracted to magnets?
Why did the 5 peso coin not attracted to magnet?
2. Differentiated Activity
1st family – skit showing the use of magnet in separating mixture in school
2nd family- skit showing the use of magnet in separating mixture in the market
3rd family – dance steps showing separating mixture using magnet
4th family – song that describes how and when magnets are used to separate
mixture
3. Values infusion
Showing different products from recycled metal materials
Evaluate
Direction: Put a if the mixture can be separated with the use of magnet and if not:
