Former Rep. Barbara Norton, D-Shreveport is on a mission to give free shoes and backpacks to students in need in the Shreveport-Bossier City area.
The 20th annual Free Back to School Shoe & Backpack Giveaway event is set to take place 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Jul. 27, but in order to participate, you must first sign up in person on either Monday or July 23.
To qualify for the back-to-school shoe and backpack giveaway, attendees are required to bring ID and proof of government assistance.
Applications to sign up for the giveaway will be at these Shoppers Value Foods locations:
Monday July 15
- 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 3709 Greenwood Road, Shreveport..
- 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 6363 Hearne Ave., Shreveport.
• Tuesday July 23 (Last day to sign up)
- 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 1867 Nelson St. (off North Market Street), Shreveport. – 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
This giveaway event will take place at Walmart located at 6713 Pines Road in Shreveport LA. The giveaway is open to children ages 6 through 21.
This event is being sponsored by the African American Celebration Parade Committee Founder Barbara Norton, along with other sponsors such as Walmart, Shoppers Value Foods, and more.
