A big change in betting lines drew scrutiny Thursday night during the Temple-UAB AAC men’s basketball game, according to Sports Illustrated.
U.S. Integrity alerted casinos Thursday raising concerns of “unusual wagering activity” surrounding the game, SI reported. U.S. Integrity monitors gambling activity across the country, measuring changes in betting data against a normal benchmark of activity, according to the company’s website.
The Temple-UAB betting line shifted significantly throughout the day, per SI, with UAB going from a 1.5-point favorite to an eight-point favorite at one casino before “settling at seven” by game time. UAB defeated the Owls 100-72, easily covering the spread.
“We are aware they flagged it,” Tom Fenstermaker, AAC men’s basketball director of communications, told SI.
Many colleges and universities as well as professional teams and leagues employ U.S. Integrity to monitor betting activity. Its clients include the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL PGA Tour and four of the Power Five conferences.
U.S. Integrity also played a role in flagging the betting scandal involving Alabama baseball last spring, SI reported. The scandal led to the firing of Alabama coach Brad Bohannon.
