Tampa police search for driver in crash that killed bicyclist

A 57-year-old man died after he was struck Tuesday near the intersection of North 19th Street and East 21st Avenue, police said.

The Tampa Police Department is searching for a driver who struck and killed a bicyclist Tuesday night near the College Hill-Belmont Heights neighborhood and left the scene.

Officers responded to the 1900 block of E 21st Ave. about 8:20 p.m. and found a 57-year-old man unresponsive in the road, according a news release. The man was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan near the intersection of North 19th Street and East 21st Avenue, police said.

Tampa Fire Rescue took the man to a local hospital, where he died. Police did not identify the bicyclist.

Detectives were working to identify and locate the driver and the car involved in the crash.

No other details have been released.
