Haaland in a league of his own

The bookmakers see the Premier League Golden Boot competition for 2024-25 as a one-horse race, with Erling Haaland the 4/6 favourites to complete a hat-trick of victories.

Haaland scored 36 top-flight goals in his first season in England and, although that tally fell to 27 in 31 Premier League games last term, he still finished five clear of the field.

With City chasing a seventh league title in eight seasons, the bookmakers are convinced Haaland will finish top of the goalscoring charts again, making Mohamed Salah a distant second favourite at 10/1.

Salah’s Liverpool team-mate Darwin Nunez is one of three players at 16/1 to be the Premier League’s top scorer, along with Alexander Isak of Newcastle and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

Isak was the third-highest scorer last season with 21 goals while Watkins was one of three players to end the campaign with 19 goals.

Cole Palmer was the runner-up last season, scoring 22 goals in his debut campaign for Chelsea. The 22-year-old is 20/1 to be the top scorer in 2024-25 along with his England team-mate Ivan Toney.

Seven players are 33/1 to win the award, including City’s Phil Foden and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, who both scored 19 top-flight goals last term.

Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz are also both 33/1 but will need to improve on last season’s numbers, when Saka scored 16 and Havertz netted 13.

Son Heung-min, who was the joint-top scorer in 2021-22, is 33/1 to do it again next season along with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea.
