Horse racing tips: Carlisle and Pontefract – Monday June 10
Today’s horse racing picks are from Carlisle and Pontefract

There are five race meetings on Monday – four Flat fixtures in England and a jumps meeting from Roscommon in Ireland.

Lingfield (2.00-5.10pm) is the first port of call, followed by Carlisle (2.20-4.55), Windsor (5.40-8.40) and Pontefract (6.30-9.00). The National Hunt action comes from Roscommon (4.48-8.18).

Our Monday fancies include an Ed Bethell-trained three-year-old who has a great chance to get off the mark with the yard in form.

Horse racing tips: Carlisle 3.20

With Ed Bethell’s yard hitting top form, this 1m 3f Class 5 handicap represents a good opportunity for MINSTREL KNIGHT to open his account after a few encouraging efforts.

Bethell bagged two winners on Friday and his three-year-old son of Advertise caught the eye when finishing an unlucky second behind Yippee last month at Pontefract (1m 2f, good).

He was badly checked when trying to make his challenge under Hollie Doyle and when he got out his chance had gone. Running on well to the line, he snatched second late on and it looks as though he will relish the extra distance here.

It has taken Minstrel Knight a bit of time to find his feet, perhaps because he was tackling inadequate distances. Running off an unchanged mark, he has to be taken very seriously in a winnable race.

Selection: Minstrel Knight @ 9/4 with BetMGM

Horse racing tips: Pontefract 6.30

Trainer Paul Midgley has a remarkable record in this 5f apprentice handicap, having won it five years on the bounce. Of his three challengers this year, EMPEROR CARADOC is the standout pick.

This five-year-old son of Siyouni likes to get on with things from the off, so his draw in stall one looks ideal tactically. He should be able to bag the rail and pinch a couple of lengths off the field early on.

Emperor Caradoc arrives here in good heart after a good second behind Toptime at Doncaster (6f, good). He’s 1lb higher today but Tom Kiely-Marshall takes off 3lb so he looks well in at the weights.

This will be his third start at Pontefract. He stays much further and was fourth here over a mile in the past but also finished third here off a mark of 70 last August, which is 4lb above his current mark.

It may be only his second crack at five furlongs but he went close over the trip at Ayr last month, finding only one too strong, and he looks set to go close.

Selection: Emperor Caradoc @ 4/1 with BetMGM

Horse racing tips: Pontefract 8.30

This 1m 2f handicap is a low-grade affair for runners rated 0-60, and running off a career-low mark of 58, it would be disappointing if Tim Easterby’s TASEVER isn’t involved.

The four-year-old ran his best race in some time when fifth over a mile at Redcar last time and this step up in trip could unlock further improvement for a horse who looked outpaced late on that day.

Winless in 17 career starts, he comes with obvious risks attached, but he was narrowly denied at this track over a mile in October off a mark of 63 in Class 4 company, so he really should be up winning a race of this nature.

The only question mark is whether he will stay or not, but if he does, he should be right in the mix.

Selection: Tasever @ 7/1 with BetMGM
