The Wimbledon men’s singles competition has reached the semi-final stage and a repeat of last year’s final remains possible with Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on opposite sides of the draw.
Alcaraz, a brilliant winner against Djokovic on Centre Court 12 months ago, takes on Daniil Medvedev, who reached the last four with a victory over world No.1 Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic, meanwhile, had a walkover in the semi-final courtesy of Alex de Minaur’s withdrawal and he lines up opposite surprise package Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, who had never progressed beyond the fourth round of a grand-slam event before Wimbledon.

Defending champion poised to march on
Defending the Wimbledon title hasn’t come easy to Alcaraz, who has dropped sets in each of his last three matches at the All England Club, but the super Spaniard is still expected to see off Medvedev in their fourth grand-slam meeting.
Medvedev eased through in straight sets against Alcaraz at Wimbledon in 2021 but the Spaniard was then a teenager making his first forays on grass and the tables have since turned dramatically in his favour in the head-to-head stakes.
The 21-year-old from Murcia has faced Medvedev on five subsequent occasions, winning four times, including a dominant 6-3 6-3 6-3 victory on his way to winning this title for the first time last year.
While Medvedev beat Alcaraz in the US Open two months later, the 28-year-old is at his very best on hard courts while his opponent excels on all surfaces, becoming the youngest man to win a slam on all three terrains with his victory at the French Open last month.
Medvedev has quietly gone about his business in south-west London but his run to the final four has been somewhat fortuitous as he benefited from Grigor Dimitrov’s retirement in the fourth round while Sinner was clearly struggling in the latter stages of their quarter-final.
Alcaraz knows he has the beating of Medvedev and he is likely to go through the gears, for all that the underdog may be playing well enough to win a set in defeat.

Lorenzo Musetti vs Novak Djokovic tips

Italian could catch Djokovic cold
The odds suggest there is no stopping Djokovic as the seven-times Wimbledon champion aims to reach another final but Musetti is playing well and could spring a minor surprise by establishing an early lead.
The 22-year-old showcased his grass-court credentials at Queen’s last month, losing to Tommy Paul in the final, and has impressed again in posting by far his best grand-slam result at the All England Club.
Musetti was an underdog for his quarter-final clash with Taylor Fritz but scrapped his way to a 3-6 7-6 6-2 3-6 6-1 win over the American, and he is even more of a long-shot against the most decorated men’s tennis player in history.
On paper, the task is a daunting one for Musetti and he has spent a lot more time on court than Djokovic over this fortnight, particularly after the Serb received a walkover into the last four.
However, the Italian has beaten Djokovic before, triumphing in three sets in Monte Carlo last season, and he pushed him all the way in a five-setter at the French Open at the beginning of June.
Djokovic has been managing a knee problem following surgery on a torn meniscus and that lack of court time might not necessarily be to his advantage. He could be caught cold and Musetti looks to be decent value to win the first set before his opponent turns the screw.
