A plush hotel has submitted plans to Renfrewshire Council for the creation of a new spa and spa garden.

Mar Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort is currently undergoing a substantial refurbishment programme as part of ongoing investment under new ownership.

As well as the spa proposals, the latest planning application submitted by Mar Hall Hospitality Limited seeks permission for the refurbishment and upgrade of leisure facilities, along with alterations to a building called The Barn.

If approved, the plans would see the leisure building, which comprises a mix of hotel bedrooms and leisure facilities, extended over an existing terrace area to form a new spa bistro area with external terrace seating.

The proposals also include an indoor thermal pool linked to an external thermal pool.

The new spa garden would include covered seating areas below roof canopies/pergolas, glazed herbal warm rooms with glazed façades, fire pit seating areas and terraced lawns.

It would also feature a cold water swimming pond with filtered water which the planning statement said would provide "a more natural swimming experience".

The Barn, meanwhile, is a single storey building containing five bedrooms and a living, kitchen, dining area accessed via a central corridor.

The building is set back from the existing spa facilities and is currently dilapidated.

It is proposed that the building is completely re-clad with new timber cladding and stone walling effect cladding to give the building a more contemporary appearance and allow it to better connect to the proposed alterations at the spa.

A new entrance canopy and porch are also proposed.

Through pre-application discussions with Renfrewshire Council it was sought that an application was submitted for alterations to The Barn owing to the proximity of the building to the Category A listed Mar Hall, and the potential impact on its setting.
