Oscar nominations 2024 LIVE — Fans slam irony as Barbie song I’m Just Ken up for award, but Academy snubs Margot Robbie

THE NOMINATIONS for the 2024 Oscars have been revealed, but some movie buffs are not happy.

Fans on X, formerly known as Twitter,complained about how Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were snubbed from the awards list for their roles in creating the Barbie movie.

Meanwhile, I'm Just Ken is up for another award for Best Original Song after nabbing Best Song at the 29th Critics' Choice Awards - and Ryan Gosling is nominated for best supporting actor for his role as Ken.

"No nomination for Margot Robbie or Greta Gerwig for the #Oscars but Ryan Gosling gets one. Literally the whole point of the Barbie film," one social media user wrote.

The Oscars will light up Hollywood on March 10.

  • Fan frustrated with Best Actor nominations

    One fan has expressed frustration on X, formerly known as Twitter, over the Best Actor nominations.

    "I just hate that Coleman Domingo and Jeffrey Wright are both nominated for best actor in a leading role!" the fan wrote.

    She then declared Coleman Domingo should win the Oscar.

    Colman Domingo has been nominated for an Oscar for the first time in his career.

    He received the nomination of Best Actor for his role in Rustin.

    Domingo previously spoke with Rolling Stone about his portrayal of Bayard Rustin, "I’ve been working toward this my whole career, especially someone like this who I deeply admire."

  • Fan disagrees with Barbie snub

    As many are calling out the Academy members for not nominating Margot Robbie, one fan called out those who are slamming the decision.

    "You know other women got nominated too, right? Why is Twitter obsessed with this movie?" the fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

    "It was fun sure, but no way was it better than most of the movies that came out this year."

    The fan added: "Also, other women in far better movies are rightfully getting more nominations."

  • 'Feminine rage'

    Several Barbie fans are making it known that they are not thrilled with the Oscar nominations, which were revealed this morning.

    "The feminine rage I feel right now after Oscar Nominations announcement," one wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

    Another added, "Ken getting a oscarnomination [sic] while Barbie didnt get one is exactly what #Barbie is about…."

    In a heartfelt Instagram post, Billie Eilish thanked the Academy members for nominating her for Best Original Song.

    America Ferrara has been nominated for the best supporting actress Oscar, and she has since reflected on the news.

    “For a moment, I questioned whether I had imagined it,” the Barbie star told The Hollywood Reporter.

    "It was utterly shocking and exciting."

  • 'I'm alive and I am an Oscar nominee'

    It's safe to say Danielle Brooks is relishing her nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

    “I’m alive and I am an Oscar nominee today,” the Color Purple star told the New York Times.

    “I don’t think I’ll be able to go back to sleep.”

    It was a fantastic year for animation, as Marvel, Pixar and Studio Ghibli all released hugely popular films.

    Cillian Murphy has said today's nomination was "humbling."

    The Irish star is up for Best Actor for his turn as the titular Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's historical epic.

    “It’s very, very humbling,” Murphy, 48, told the New York Times today.

    “I’m kind of a little in shock.

    “It’s just a real honor to be involved in a film that has connected so powerfully with people in a way that we never expected."

  • Martin Scorsese makes history

    Martin Scorsese made history today earning his 10th nomination in the Best Director category.

    Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon earned 11 nominations today, with its star, Lilly Gladstone, leading the race for Best Actress.

    Even Stephen King was shocked to see Greta Gerwig's name missing from the Best Director shortlist.

    Taking to X, he wrote, "No nom for Greta Gerwig? Can that actually be true?"

    The 96th edition of the Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

    The event will air live on ABC in more than 200 territories.

    It will also be streamed on ITV in the UK.

  • The big winners from today's nominations

    The biggest winner from today's nominations is undoubtedly Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

    Receiving an impressive 13 nominations, the historical epic could be set to sweep most of the major categories come March.

    Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon also have reason to celebrate, with 11 noms each.

    Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day is Greta Gerwig NOT earning a nomination for best director, despite Barbie being up for seven awards.

    Lily Gladstone, who was favourite to win best actress before today, got her much-deserved nomination.

    Perhaps the biggest shock of today is the lack of nominations for Barbie duo Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.

    Greta Gerwig did not receive a nomination for best director while Margot Robbie's name was nowhere to be seen on the Best Actress shortlist.

    One cinemagoer wrote on X, "Greta Gerwig being snubbed at the #Oscars despite barbie being the ONLY $1 billion movie solely directed by a woman feels VERY sus to me…"
