iHeartRadio Music Awards 2024 LIVE — ‘What’s the point’ fans say as Taylor Swift takes home second historic award

TAYLOR Swift has won yet another award - and some fans aren't happy about her win.

The singer took home the Artist of the Year award at the iHeart Radio Music ceremony last night—a milestone that she'd hit once before in 2015.

She was unable to attend the ceremony to accept her award in person, however, and sent in a video speech instead, saying in part to fans, "Hey! I wanted to say thank you so much to anyone who voted for this award.

"iHeart, you've also just been so incredibly supportive over the course of my entire career, but especially this year has been pretty spectacular. I am so grateful for that."

While many fans were happy about her win, others were not so much, sharing their frustrations on social media.

"whats the point of having 'artist of the year' anymore?" wrote another. "shes going to win no matter what, even though there are so many more deserving artists."

Swift was previously also honored with the Female Artist of the Year award in 2016 and 2018 ahead of gender-neutral changes to the names of awards last year.

Beyoncé went on to dedicate the Innovator Award "to all the innovators who have dedicated their lives and their art to creating shifts.

"So thank you for your sacrifices, your powerful voices, and your dauntless spirits," she said.

"Thank you to Rosetta Tharpe, Miss Tracy Chapman, Linda Martell, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Andre 3000, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson and so many more who defied any label placed upon them - thank you for executing your dream so we could all follow.

"And thank you to my team at Parkwood, y’all work so hard, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

"My husband, my rock, my best friend, I love you. My three beautiful children who continue to be my inspiration and my biggest blessing.

"Have a beautiful night and thank you so much.”

Beyoncé accepted the Innovator Award from Stevie Wonder, who she thanked for his inspiration and for playing harmonica on Jolene off her new country album.

“Thank you to iHeartRadio. Tonight you call me an innovator, and for that I’m very grateful," the iconic singer started the speech.

"Innovation starts with a dream, but then you have to execute that dream, and that road can be very bumpy.

"Being an innovator is seeing what everyone believes is impossible. Being an innovator often means being criticized, which often will test your mental strength.

"Being an innovator is leaning on faith, and trusting that God will catch you and guide you.

"So, to all the record labels, every radio station, every awards show, my hope is that we’re more open to the joy and liberation that comes from enjoying art with no preconceived notions."

  • What is Kill Bill about?

SZA's hit song Kill Bill, which won Song of the Year last night, isn't explicitly linked to the Quentin Tarantino film by the same name, but SZA hints at a similar plotline throughout the song.

The song follows SZA through her grief over losing an ex-lover to a new woman, which seems to have led to her spinning out of control.

In the plot of Kill Bill Volume 1, the female lead embarks on a journey to kill her ex.

SZA's chorus to the song is:

"I might kill my ex, not the best idea
His new girlfriend’s next, how’d I get here?
I might kill my ex, I still love him though
Rather be in jail than alone"
