On Monday, the Whiskey Glasses singer returned to Instagram after a six-week hiatus to announce an extra tour date in his hometown of Tennessee on September 22.

"I'm coming home," Morgan captioned a dramatic video montage, with clips from his past shows.

However, angry fans were quick to point out that Morgan had recently rescheduled a handful of shows in Florida and North Carolina, with one person writing, "How are you gonna have more dates if you can’t even keep the ones you had?"

Morgan was forced to move his second performance in Tampa on 12 July after he "powered through being sick" during the previous night's show.

"I hate to reschedule shows but I powered through being sick in Tampa last night, and unfortunately woke up feeling way worse today," he wrote on X.

"I would not give you guys anywhere near 100% tonight and as a result, I need to move tonight's Tampa show to October 4 and next week's Charlotte shows to October 18 and 19."

Fans who were scheduled to attend Morgan's concert last Friday night expressed their disappointment that the Grammy-nominated singer had offered "ZERO apology" for cancelling the show "30 minutes before doors" opened.

Commenting under the tour announcement, one person wrote that they "waited all day to get a good spot" at Morgan's Tampa concert only to have him "cancel 10 minutes before we line up to come in".

"This is the second time a show was rescheduled I’ve gone to see," their comment read.

"Keep adding more shows when you can’t even handle the ones you have," another person said.

One fan suggested that Morgan "work on showing up to the shows you already have and not cancelling 4 hours before" instead of announcing additional tour dates.

Others jumped to Morgan's defense, with one fan writing, "Leave the man alone, he was sick. He couldn’t perform at his best. He couldn’t give everything to the fans."

Another celebrated the forthcoming show in Knoxville, Tennessee at Neyland Stadium, which ranks among the country's largest football stadiums, as a huge milestone for Morgan.

Morgan Wallen's legal issues and controversies

The country singer has faced several public backlashes and arrests over the years.

  • 2016: Wallen was charged with a DUI but the case was later dismissed.
  • May 23, 2020: He was kicked out of a Nashville bar then arrested and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
  • October 2020: A video of Wallen parting and making out with girls without a mask during lockdown in Alabama surfaced online.
  • October 7, 2020: His debut appearance on SNL was canceled due to the video and he later released an apology video on Instagram.
  • February 2, 2021: A video of Wallen referring to his friend using the N-word was shared online.
  • February 3, 2021: He was pulled from radio stations, suspended by his record label, and posted an apology video a week later.
  • October 28, 2021: He was banned from attending and receiving awards at the American Music Awards.
  • April 23, 2023: He canceled his concert in Mississippi moments before the show was set to start and said this was because he had lost his voice.
  • April 25, 2023: A concertgoer filed a federal lawsuit against the country singer for breach of contract and negligence.

Home to the Tennessee Volunteers football team, the sports stadium's official capacity is over 100,000.

“I’ve had the honor of playing in a lot of college, MLB and NFL stadiums the past two years, but getting to play to my hometown at Neyland Stadium, nothing tops this for a boy from East Tennessee,” Morgan said in a press release on Monday morning.

MORGAN'S RUN

Morgan first stepped into the spotlight in 2014, when he competed on the sixth season of hit reality TV show The Voice.

He released his debut EP Stand Alone the following year, followed by three studio albums, including If I Know Me (2018), Dangerous: The Double Album (2021), and One Thing at a Time (2023).

Morgan has received six Grammy nominations, and his 2023 hit Last Night topped the Billboard 100 for 16 consecutive weeks – making it the second-longest run for any solo artist in the chart's 65-year history.

Last May, Morgan announced he was putting his One Night at a Time world tour on hold, after he was diagnosed with "vocal fold trauma".

He resumed the tour on June 22, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois, and kicked off the 2024 leg on April 4 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

With an estimated net worth of approximately $12 million, Morgan has also become embroiled in multiple controversies in recent years.

He was arrested and jailed on felony charges in Nashville on April 7, 2024 after he "allegedly hurled a chair off the six-story roof of a popular bar on the city’s bustling Broadway street."

The chair reportedly landed close to two police officers who were standing in front of the restaurant at the time.

He admitted "I'm not proud" of his behavior in a statement shared on X on April 20, adding, "I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change.”

CHAOS

On February 2, 2021, Morgan was caught on video using a racial slur, prompting his label Big Loud Records to put his career on an "indefinite hiatus" – adding "such behavior will not be tolerated".

The clip, first published by TMZ, was recorded by one of his neighbors and depicted Morgan using the n-word during an exchange with a friend outside his home in Nashville, Tennessee.

“The video you saw was me on hour 72 of a 72-hour bender, and that’s not something I’m proud of,” the hitmaker said in an apology video posted on his Instagram account on February 11, 2021.

He also asked his fans not to defend him, adding, "I fully accept any penalties I was facing".

Morgan said "I never will make an excuse" for his actions that night in an interview with Variety last December, adding, "that person is definitely not the same person I am now".
