He is understood to have been travelling to watch his son, Cork City footballer Ruairi, 28, play a match in Sligo when the crash took place.

Ciarán’s wife was a passenger in the car and was taken to hospital.

Boyzone star Ronan, 46, is believed to have rushed to Ireland to be with the family following the tragedy.

It came shortly after the When You Say Nothing At All singer was a judge in The Voice Kids final.

Ronan is the youngest of five children with one sister, Linda, and three brothers - Ciarán, Gerard and Gary.

Ciaran is Ronan's older brother and his family moved to Westport, Co Mayo, a number of years ago, re-locating from their native Dublin.

Their dad Gary was a lorry driver and his mum Marie was a hairdresser.

Ronan recently exclusively told The Sun how the young The Voice Kids hopefuls are "more talented" than the adults.

The dad-of-three said: “I have kids the same age as some of the talent that stood on stage, and to see them with such confidence and such ability at that age is mesmerising.

“I am always honest, but sometimes it is hard as these kids are just starting out on their journeys.

"You want to keep the dream alive and give them the right criticism in the most positive way.”

Like the adult version of the show, the panel sit with their backs to the stage during the auditions and only get to see the performers if they hit their button to have a chance of mentoring them.
