‘It doesn’t cost the earth to propose’ shopper claims as she spots £1.50 engagement rings – but many share a complaint
NOW that Christmas is over, it appears that more and more of us are starting to think about what’s next.
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, many high-street chains are beginning to stock up on gifts suitable for the romantic occasion.
From chocolates to beauty sets, there’s a variety of things available on the shelves, but one bargain hunter was recently left open-mouthed when she spotted engagement rings on the cheap.
One shopper recently spotted engagement rings for just £1.50 - yes, you heard that correctly.
So if you’ve been thinking about proposing to your lover but are on a budget, you’ll want to check this out.
Savvy shopper Rachel Platts took to social media to show off the cheap find, leaving many totally stunned.
Posting on Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, a private Facebook group with a staggering 2.4 million members, Rachel shared a picture of the cheap Valentine’s rings and wrote: “See it doesn’t cost the earth to propose, ring in a box £1.50.”
The silver "ring in a box", comes in a beautiful red box and according to many shoppers, will give people "no excuse" to avoid popping the question.
Rachel post clearly impressed many, as after just nine hours it had amassed 350 likes and 360 comments.
One person said: “Good idea, if [they] say no you’ve only wasted £1.50.”

Another added: “I love these. I buy them for my little girl, [it] stops her trying on my proper ones.”
A third commented: “Some people can’t afford to buy expensive rings, [it] doesn’t matter about the price tag, it's the thought that counts.”
Whilst someone else claimed: “If I'm not proposed to with one of these... I'll be disappointed.”
Meanwhile, another user shared: “I’ve heard of lots of people using this ring for the proposal and going to choose something together later.”
However, many had the same complaint about the price of the ring.
One shopper wrote: “God inflation, I'm sure they used to be £1.”
A second agreed: “That's quite the price increase, almost certain they were a quid not that long ago.”
Meanwhile, many shoppers tagged their loved ones in the comments to alert them to the cheap rings.
One woman mentioned a Facebook user and claimed: “You have no excuse now.”
