However, we may finally have an answer.

Taking to TikTok, Aimee Wills revealed that she had just seen a video of a Mcdonald's worker sharing the truth.

She said: "When you order the food, they take a picture of your face."

Aimee was shocked by the revelation, stating: "Can you imagine what that picture looks like?"

Her mouth then dropped open, as she imagined the camera catching her at a bad angle, or whilst she was mid-way through speaking.

Her claims appear to be backed up by Mcdonald's worker @privf1tz who said in a TikTok video: "We have a camera at the speaker that takes a picture of you so we know whose order is whose.

"Seeing random people's mugshots makes my day."

The McDonald's staff member added that the speakers also pick up conversations people have in their cars before they take their orders.

The revelation has likely left many people open-mouthed, as Aimee's TikTok, which was posted under the username @aimeeeewills, has racked up 1.4 million views.

A third person said: "I'm never going through the drive-thru again!"

Another McDonald's worker added: "This is 10000% true.

"We’ve even been bored and rated all the upcoming people."

A fifth person chimed in: "I always thought they noted the number plate!"

McDonald's told Fabulous: "Drive-Thru cameras capture images at the time orders are placed, however, this is not permanently saved onto any device.

"Instead, the image is displayed on the cashier’s till in the drive-thru window and is then automatically deleted within 30 minutes of the sale being completed.

"The image is captured to ensure that the completed food and beverage order is passed to the same person who placed the order.

"Whilst using the McDonald’s drive-thru, audio is not recorded, the audio feed is live and in real time to facilitate order taking between the crew member and customer.

"There is no system or capacity to record audio, or to playback audio received through the headset system.
