In October 2020, Coca-Cola announced that they were removing half of its soda brands.

“The company expects to offer a portfolio of approximately 200 master brands, an approximate 50% reduction from the current number, and phase out some products, such as Zico and Tab,” Coca-Cola shared in a press release.

Many customers realized that one of the brands that has been affected was Fanta.

While only two flavors were discontinued during its 2020 cut, over the years customers have noticed other great flavors being released from the brand as well.

MANGO

Fanta Mango was released in 2016, alongside Fanta Berry.

The goal of their newest flavor was to appeal to millennials who craved variety in their soda options, according to Fanta.

When it was released, customers had the option of 12- and 20-ounce PET bottles as well as 12-ounce cans.

GREEN APPLE

Fanta's Green Apple was released in 2015 and had a positive reception.

Coca-Cola confirms discontinued soda is gone for good after pulling popular drink from shelves – and fans are not happy

the brand discribed it as having a crisp and invigorating taste that included "the sweet, tangy flavor of green apples."

Those on Reddit, who were able to try it discribed it as " surprisingly mellow and had a good flavor," or as their "2nd fav after lemon."

RED APPLE

Fanta Red Apple was something that most fans were only able to discover regionally in the United States.

This was another drink that was discribed as having a refreshing flavor that had a rich apple aftertaste.

Up until 2020, the beverage was spotted in restaurants like CiCi's Pizza, as a fountain drink option

WILD CHERRY

Wild Chery debuted in 2019 and only was available for a year before it was discontinued.

At the time of its release, Debra Origel, associate brand manager, revealed that Coca-Cola thought it would be a huge hit for the company, especially since Fanta Cherry had become a favorite among customers.

“When it came time to launch a new flavor, we knew it had to be Wild Cherry based on the overwhelmingly positive response we received,” she said in a press release.

“With Fanta Wild Cherry, we’re giving consumers what they love

LEMON

Fanta lemon was another popular flavor that has done very well in Europe in comparison to the United States.

The flavor was discribed as having the acidity and bitterness of lemon, while still keeping a refreshing aftertaste.

It was announced on social media in 2018, that due to low sales in the United States, it would be discontinued.

CUSTOMER REACTIONS

Customers took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share how upset they were that their favorite flavors would never return.

"Grape Fanta getting discontinued is my villain origin story," one x user wrote.

"my fav flavor of Fanta was discontinued in my country :( I want my damn Fanta lemon!!"

Others were just happy that their country was not affected by the recent change.

"Thank f**k fanta lemon is only discontinued in the US n it’s sound here," said a customer who lived in the United Kingdom.

When speaking to an X user about why they no longer sell certain products, a spokesperson for Fanta explained in a now-deleted tweet that it is largely based on customer demand.

"Many factors go into the decision to stop selling a particular product. Typically, it is a matter of consumer demand. If there isn't enough consumer interest in a particular product, retailers will stop carrying it."
