Who owns ShopRite?

ShopRite's history goes all the back to the 1940s, according to the chain's official website.

Eight small business owners came together to form Wakefern Food Corporation in New Jersey in 1946.

The Wakefern Food Corporation cooperative is the owner of Shoprite.

The cooperative now comprises 50 members who independently own and operate supermarkets under ShopRite's name.

Wakefern began using the name ShopRite in 1951 and has expanded to over 200 locations throughout the northeastern United States.

ShopRite operated in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, and Maryland.
