SAM'S Club fans are sharing mixed feelings about the retailer's new Scan & Go checkout procedure that lets shoppers avoid lines.

The membership-based warehouse club made a post on Facebook informing its customers about the Scan & Go checkout app.

In the mobile app, shoppers can scan their items as they shop at a Sam's Club and pay for the products they want right on their phones.

"Using Scan & Go checkout is like shopping in fast forward," Sam's Club said in its post.

"When you Scan & Go at the checkout or to fuel up you're automatically entered to win."

There are aspects of the paying option that consumers appreciate but there are also some shoppers who feel like the futuristic checkout change is a way for the retailer to cut labor costs.

A person commented on the Facebook post: "Does this new App replace workers?"

A couple of other Sam's Club shoppers responded to the question.

"Of course it does," a user said.

"That’s the whole idea … cutting labor costs."

"You become the employee," another added.

"But w/o wage or discount."

Sam's Club adds delivery fee

"So, you want us to do your job and maybe win a prize," a shopper asked in the comments of the Sam's Club post.

"No, I don't work there," a Facebooker stressed.

"I'm not going to do their job for them. The prices are high enough, so I'm not going to say them money and scan my own stuff."

A shopper even asked: "So what kind of discount will I get for subsidizing labor?"

One person said the new checkout method is a "game changer" for them as they explained why they vowed not to pay the annual membership fee for Sam's Club anymore.

"We also pay an annual fee to shop there and check ourselves out," the consumer said.

"I went to Walmart and got a lot of things cheaper, so folks check prices, just saying. This will be the last year I pay the fee, made up my mind.

A Facebook user simply said: "No, that's why y'all pay employees."

Some people even pointed out how the Scan & Go paying method could cause more issues with retail theft.

"Seems like it would make it super easy for people to shoplift," a customer said.

"Best way to steal," someone added.

"Assuming everyone is honest," an individual chimed.

"If management won't allow employees to pursue thieves out the door, if no police are present, I guarantee theft will skyrocket. And your cost along with it."

Though there are systems in place to deter people from stealing products from Sam's Club, some shoppers still had some complaints.

"And then you have to wait in a long line to get out the door so that an employee can scan it all again," a person commented about skipping the checkout lines with the Scan & Go app.
