Kroger overcharged me by 5 times the amount – I was forced to lock my credit card and couldn’t pay for my groceries

Other customers have complained about getting overcharged by Kroger too

AN ANGRY Kroger shopper says she was overcharged by about five times the amount she was supposed to pay, resulting in a blocked card — and it's not the first time.

The disgruntled Kroger customer shared a photo of her receipt on the social media platform X, revealing that she purchased just $33.05 in gas.

Now she claims a hold for $150.50 — almost five times the amount she actually ended up spending — was placed on her card, and she wants to know why.

"Why did you just put a pending charge on my debit card for over 5 TIMES the amount I paid for gas!?" wrote, kutekiTTi (@kute_kitti) on Thursday.

"I paid $33.05 and you put a pending charge of.....$150.50!?" she lamented.

According to the user, she had been through this before.

"This happened last year and all I was told was it will charge the correct amount in a few days..."

She explained in a follow-up comment that although she had enough funds in her account to cover the overcharge this time, she was not so fortunate the previous year.

The first incident left her debit card locked due to insufficient funds.

"Last year, this locked my debit card because my account didn't have $150 to use," she explained.

"I couldn't buy groceries until that charge came off and processed correctly. Luckily this time my card didn't lock."

The user went into further detail in a third comment.

"If I didn't have $150 in my bank and I bought gas for $33, my card won't work [because] it shows a neg balance until the correct amount goes thru, which is in 3-5 business days."

"So, basically, that screws me over for a whole week if I don't have $150 in my account? OK then," she wrote, adding inquisitive emojis for effect.

The experiences have left her angry and questioning why Kroger has such a policy.

"5X THE AMOUNT?? WHY??" she exclaimed.

NOT THE FIRST ANGRY SHOPPER

Other Kroger customers have found themselves in similar situations — and are demanding answers too.

Shopper Stacy Hicks criticized the Kroger App after she claimed that she was charged for items she did not request and did not receive in an online order.

How to contact Kroger

The retailer has given shoppers multiple ways to contact its customer service team for problems like overcharging.

Hicks shared her warning in a Facebook post.

The shopper claimed she was overcharged when she attempted to purchase bananas.

“First, I ordered five bananas, I got five bunches of bananas,” Hicks said in a Facebook post. “I laughed that off."

“I notice on my bank an overcharge from Kroger for $77.71. I check the receipt,” she added.

“There are several items on there listed as 'substitutions' that I did not order nor did I receive," she claimed.

Another shopper using the app noticed that they were consistently charged for more ten-cent bags than their order required.

"Just today, the driver said I was being charged for eight bags and my stuff was in six (he corrected it)," the shopper (@theevilsquiddel) wrote on X.

"With thousands of customers, I'm sure that overcharge of 20 cents really adds up. How much is Kroger making off their customers charging for bags that the customer doesn't use?"

"I call customer service and they are useless," the customer added.

Kroger did not immediately respond to a request for comment by The U.S. Sun.
