On a list of fast motors with great fuel economy, Jonny says the 435d is “simply the best bang for buck” on a list of motors that boast speed and great fuel economy.

He added: “It’s the closest thing you can get to a diesel M4 - especially if you give it a remap.

“You can actually get better straight line performance out of it than its M4 equivalent.”

The 435d comes with a 3-litre twin-turbocharged motor that makes 308 bhp - and it's capable of hitting 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

What's more, as standard, it can do 50 miles per gallon - which makes running it a lot cheaper than an M4.

In an Autocar review from 2013, they wrote: "The 435d will effortlessly blast from one side of Europe to the other, using surprisingly little fuel given the performance."

Six checks you must make before buying a used car

  1. Look out for dents or bumps in the bodywork
  2. Check the paint for cracks, scratches and bubbles
  3. Make sure the lights all work
  4. Check the tyre tread and pressure
  5. Make sure the gearbox is in good condition
  6. Give the interior a thorough examination

Originally priced at around £45,000 when new, these can now be picked up for under £10,000 second-hand.

And £10,000 bang-on is enough to get a 2015 model with high-mileage.

This comes as Wheeler Dealers' star Mike Brewer picked up a BMW model that's currently "the most expensive car ever bought" in the show's history.

Elsewhere, BMW recently revealed they're changing the way they name their petrol cars – ending 50 years of tradition.
