MILLIONAIRE rapper C Gambino made a desperate call for medics shortly after being gunned down in an ambush attack.

The masked star, 26, had parked his car in a garage in Gothenburg, in gang war-gripping Sweden, when gunmen unleashed a hail of bullets on him.

Wounded in the chest and his arm, the rapper still managed to call emergency services and was awake and talking when cops arrived.

The gunmen had already disappeared from the scene by the time officers got to the garage, minutes after the emergency call.

C Gambino was found with a blood-stained t-shirt and his phone still in a conversation with SOS Alarm, Swedish outlet Expressen reports.

Cops kept talking to the shot rapper to keep him awake as they tried to stop the bleeding.

But the artist succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital over an hour later.

Cops received a call about a shooting near Selma Lagerlöf's Square in the Hisingen area of the city on Tuesday evening.

Police officer Thomas Fuxborg said: "[The rapper] lived here in the area and when he came to park his car, [the shooters] waiting for him attacked him."

Authorities reportedly found seven bullet marks on a glass door of the parking garage.

As a memorial, a yellow rose has been placed in front of the door today.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward as they have launched an inquiry.

Nobody has yet been arrested.

Police say several people have been brought in for questioning, but there are currently no suspects.

The killing "is linked to a gang conflict", a police spokesperson told AFP, adding that the rapper "was known to police".

C Gambino, whose real name is Karar Ramadan and is not to be confused with American rapper Childish Gambino, was hailed as one of Sweden's greatest and most successful artists.

The Swedish music charts were topped by his hit albums, Sin City and In Memory of Some Stand Up Guys.

In May, he took home the coveted Grammis Swedish Music Award for Hip-Hop Artist of the Year.

How did Sweden become a gangland hell ruled by druglords?

EXECUTIONS, bombs, and child soldiers running amok in the streets have turned Sweden into a gangland carnage.

A once-peaceful and safe nation is turning into a terrible haven for gangsters, murdering innocent bystanders, including a 12-year-old girl.

Although gang violence has been in Sweden for many years, the most recent wave has been particularly severe and has been fueled by two well-known druglords known as The Greek and Kurdish Fox.

While the nation's leaders are getting ready to send out the armed forces, police have been ordered to stand by in case of violent crimes or explosives.

Blameless teenagers are discovered dead close to their family homes as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, as gang warfare spills over into the inner circles and onto the streets.

Now, officials are facing a major challenge as they attempt to restore their country to the peaceful destination it once was.
