THE desperate search for missing Brit Simon Robinson has started to focus on an area where his phone last pinged, his close pal has revealed.

Simon, 27, vanished almost two weeks ago after getting on a flight from Bangkok with his worried family not hearing from him since.

The Lincolnshire native was said to have flown out of Thailand on July 26 and headed towards Helsinki, Finland - meaning the hunt has shifted a staggering 5,000 miles up to the Arctic Circle.

Simon was due to land in Helsinki to board a connecting flight which would have taken him home to the UK but he reportedly never caught the second plane and hasn't been seen since.

Despite this it is believed that his social media was last active around the time of the Finnair flight landing.

The family, friends and officials are now set to scour the city for any trace of Simon with them hoping he may still be there, his friend Demi Guttesen has revealed.

She wrote on Facebook: "Please share. Simon’s whereabouts are still unknown and he is still very much missing but now the focus is on Helsinki, Finland where his connecting flight would have landed at the time he was last active on his social media.

"If anyone has any connections in Helsinki or Finland please let me know. Thank you."

Simon took off to Thailand on July 22 for a solo holiday and was due to return only a few days later.

The Brit originally planned to stay until August 3 before bringing his return forward to July 26, his distraught sister said.

He is thought to have phoned his girlfriend to let her know he was coming back to the UK early.

But on the day of his flight the Brit wasn't responding to any messages - with his family shocked when he never showed up at the airport in the UK.

Sister Sarah Robinson Dale has been posting updates on her Facebook page ever since with them trying to locate the 27-year-old.

In the latest update, Sarah shared a tip she received from a man claiming to be a Thai immigration officer.

They were told Simon was on flight AY142 - Finnair's Bangkok-Helsinki route.

Finnair said it couldn't give any information about customers in response to a request from The Sun to verify Simon's flight details.

Alarm bells started ringing for the missing Brit's pals when they didn't hear anything from him on his birthday.

Simon's pal Sam Champ said: "One of my dear friends has gone missing in Bangkok, he hasn't been heard from since the 26th of July.

"He was supposed to board a flight that day and he didn't show up. It was his 27th birthday yesterday and everyone is growing very concerned.

"He has been reported as a missing person.

"I've attached a picture of him, his name is Simon Robinson and he's from Lincolnshire.

"If anyone could share this post onward to anyone in Bangkok or Thailand I'd be so grateful."

The Foreign Office said it stood ready to assist any Brit on overseas soil but stopped short of commenting on Simon's case.

International police organisation Interpol said it wouldn't comment on specific cases unless there were "special circumstances" or approval from the missing person's country.

It comes after Australian holidaymaker Kieran James Cramer, 28, also vanished in Thailand in July.

He was eventually found in Bangkok but mystery still surrounds the disappearance.

Another Brit vanished in Sardinia in July.

Michael Frison, 25, was said to have left his home on the Italian island "undressed" before disappearing, according to his worried mum.
