A GIRL has been found dead with her throat slashed at a home on the Gold Coast in Australia, sparking a murder probe.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but the 10-year-old couldn't be saved.

A parent is said to have made the shock discovery.

She was found just after 6pm at a home in Emerald Lakes, Carrara, with police then opening a homicide investigation.

A crime scene has been established as cops launch their major probe into how the horror unfolded.

Police Inspector Lou Serafim said a relative is now helping authorities investigate after finding the girl.

Serafim said: "At this point in time, we're treating the death of the 10-year-old girl as suspicious, and investigations are currently under way in relation to the demise of the girl.

"The triple zero call was made by a relative who was at the incident scene when they located the 10-year-old girl.

"My staff, the … first responders, and also the emergency services from the Queensland ambulance service, have entered a scene that is quite traumatic."

Neighbour Chris Sydes told Australia's Nine News he was struck by "heartache" when he watched the cops come into the street.

He said: "It's just a terrible, terrible event, terrible, breaks your heart."

A house is cordoned off by police tape as multiple people are seen talking in and around the crime scene.

A tent was put up beside the ambulance shortly before 8pm, according to the Courier Mail.

The Queensland newspaper reported members of a forensics team in blue suits were seen entering the property.

An unnamed resident was in shock.

She told local media: "It's normally very quiet around here.

"I can't believe it."

Queensland cops confirmed a murder investigation had been launched.

A statement said: "Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a girl in Carrara this evening.

"Emergency Services were called to a residence on Central Place around 6pm.

"A 10-year-old girl was located unresponsive and declared deceased at the scene. 

"A crime scene has been declared and investigations into the circumstances is underway. 

"No further information is available at this time."

Emerald Lakes is located about a 15-minute drive in land from the popular Surfers Paradise.

It's beside Carrara Stadium, which hosted track and field at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and about an hour's drive south of Brisbane.
