Truss, who was ousted after just 45 days in the wake of her disastrous mini-Budget, told Fox News that dark forces were behind her downfall.

She claimed her short lived premiership was thwarted by "trans activists" and "green extremists".

She warned: “In too much of the free world, the left has been in charge for too long and the results are all too plain to see.

“Their agents are only too active in public and private institutions and what we have come to know as the administrative state and the deep state.

“I saw this for myself first hand as they sabotaged my efforts in Britain to cut taxes, reduce the size of government and restore democratic accountability.”

Ms Truss added: “Now people are joining the civil service who are essentially activists. They might be trans activists, they might be environmental extremists, but they are now having a voice within the civil service … we have a wholly new problem.”

She will address the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC on Thursday on the perils facing conservatives around the world and promoting her new book “10 years to Save the West”

Her speech will raise eyebrows back home, coming in a session titled “Taking Back Our Parties” - in a hint that she does not consider her frontline political career to be over despite her short lived time in No10.

Donald Trump is the star turn on Saturday, with Brexit chief Nigel Farage also addressing the rally.
