FIRST TAKE guest Brian Windhorst suggested two of the basketball's biggest stars will team up soon to play together for Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, but not in the NBA.

The longtime NBA reporter stopped by First Take on Wednesday and revealed that Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Warriors icon Stephen Curry plan to team up on Team USA this summer.

Windhorst was joined alongside ESPN show hosts Stephen A Smith and Molly Qerim as well as Chris "Mad Dog Russo."

The segment was about whether James wanted to play with Curry. Smith kicked things off by stating he didn't believe James would leave the Lakers, although he felt the tandem would have been "spectacular."

"I would have loved to have seen LeBron James with Steph Curry. The greatest shooter god has ever created...

"The Golden State Warriors did reach out with an effort to acquire James, and they offered Klay Thompson and picks.

"But the Lakers obviously wanted Jonathan Kumminga, which is no way the Warriors were going to surrender.

"Lebron James also killed it immediately because he had no desire to leave. He wants to retire a Laker," Smith expressed.

However, Windorst shed more light on the situation and said the two stars have "been thinking about playing with each other" for a while now, just not the way some fans may like it.

Windorst highlighted that both players are interested in "winning something meaningful "together."

"Having talk to sources, LeBron and Steph have actually been thinking about playing together for months.

"They actually want to play together for Steve Kerr, and that is something they want to see happen.

"Where they can win something meaningful and engage basketball fans around the world," Windorst teased before revealing that James and Curry plan to play together for Team USA during the 2024 Olympics.

He also shared that those talks could have led to the Warriors inquiring about James' services at the deadline since he was frustrated with the team around him.

James is in his 21st season in the NBA and still playing at a high level, averaging 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists through 49 games, but despite the strong number, the Lakers have struggled to win games, sitting at the ninth seed in the Western conference at 29-26.

The Warriors haven't done much better, as they are currently 10th in the west at 26-25, even with Curry putting up an impressive 28 points a night.
