My dad is an NBA icon – now he calls my games on broadcast after I joined hometown team and my brother is also a legend

Dell Curry called Seth's move to the Charlotte Hornets a 'dream come true'

NBA star Seth Curry grew up watching his dad Dell wear the No. 30 jersey for the Charlotte Hornets.

Now Curry is wearing the same number for the Hornets, with Dell watching on as an announcer for the games.

Curry's move from the Dallas Mavericks the Hornets was one of the most heartwarming stories of the trade deadline.

And the journeyman guard, 33, is relishing the opportunity to play for his hometown team.

"It was exciting. With the trade deadline, you never know what's going to happen," Curry told WCNC

"You get a little bit of anxiousness seeing if you're going to get moved. If you do get moved, where, but when I found out it was Charlotte, I was very excited.

"My phone started blowing up. Happy to be here."

Curry said it was "surreal" putting on his family's beloved No. 30 jersey for the first time

Dell wore the jersey for the Hornets from 1988 until 1998 and was once the franchise's statistical leader in numerous categories.

"I always wanted to grow up in and play for the Hornets," Curry added.

"And wear that No. 30 jersey, either me or my brother, we always wanted to do it.

"So, to put that jersey on and represent for the family. It's pretty cool, just trying to live in the moment and enjoy it."

Curry is also enjoying the opportunity to spend more time with his dad again.

"It’s a little bit different. Because I mean, obviously when he's calling the games, usually he’s calling it for the other side and it's a little weird for him," he said.

"But it's cool to see him before games and after games every night now. We haven't been on a road trip yet, but when we do he's going to be traveling with us so that's going to be a little different, too.

"This is an experience we're all taking in right now."

Dell, for his part, called Seth's move "a dream come true as a dad."

"I haven’t stopped smiling since the trade was made," he added.

Curry's brother Steph – the Golden State Warriors superstar – was also thrilled with his Seth's move to the Hornets.

'I didn't stutter', says Stephen A. Smith as First Take analyst stuns Shannon Sharpe with shock on-air Warriors claim

“It was a surprise cause I didn't know Seth was on the trading block or whatnot up until probably two days before,” Curry said.

“But the fact that he had his homecoming going back to Charlotte, the first game that they played they wore their retro, the old school pinstripe Hornets jersey which my pops wore....

"It's cool to see the Curry 30 alive back in Charlotte.

"We still got a lot of family there, my dad obviously doing the color commentating for games, it's a family affair for sure.”
