Who is Andrew Toles?

Andrew Toles is a former professional baseball outfielder who was born on May 24, 1992, in Decatur, Georgia.

After a successful college career at Chipola College, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the third round in 2012 and then went on to win Minor League Player of the Year in 2013.

Things were looking up for the promising young star but after joining the Dodgers in 2016, his career began to decline.

Amid his battles with depression and anxiety, he tore his ACL, which caused him to sit out most of the 2018 season, and then by 2019, he was a no-show for spring training.

At first, fans were unaware of what happened to him, but in July 2020, it was announced that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

That same year, he was found sleeping behind a building at Key West International Airport in Florida.

Is Andrew Toles still signed by the Dodgers?

The last time Toles played for the Dodgers was on September 30, 2018, however, the team continues to re-sign his contract year after year.

While he might not play in the big leagues, re-signing the contract gives him access to the team's health insurance, which allows him to receive care for his condition.

Not much is known about Toles' life nowadays, but as of 2021, he was living with his father, Alvin, who told USA Today that his son is in a “zombie-like” condition.

"We are having challenges, but nothing that God and I can’t handle," he told the outlet, via the Los Angeles Times.

"Schizophrenia, it’s just so tough. I mean, he can’t even watch TV. He hears voices and the TV at the same time, so it’s kind of confusing. I’ve seen him looking at some baseball games on his laptop, but I don’t think he really understands what’s going on.

"I just want him to have a chance in life. That’s all. Just to be healthy, live a normal life," Alvin added.
