WWE superstar Becky Lynch explained why a dream match with UFC legend Ronda Rousey never took place on two separate occasions.

Professional wrestling fans wanted Lynch, 37, and Rousey, 37, to face off at WrestleMania 35 in 2019 when they were embroiled in a heated rivalry.

The MMA great crossed over to the squared circle from Dana White's promotion in 2018 and was being booked as the top star of the women's division.

However, the Irish grappler was the one that won the hearts of the WWE Universe and saw the opportunity to beat the American fighter to the top spot by calling her out on social media.

But Lynch hinted that WWE had already promised Charlotte Flair a WrestleMania match with Rousey five years ago.

And the wrestling giants knew The Baddest Woman on the Planet would be leaving after that year's Mania.

Therefore, Big Time Becks suggested a Singles Match between her and the UFC Hall of Famer was impossible as it would look like Charlotte was being deprived of what she was guaranteed.

And the six-time women's champion argues that WWE wanted to make sure there would be two major main-eventers left to carry the women's division after Rousey left.

Therefore, a Triple Threat Match was booked and it was won by Lynch who became the first ever Undisputed WWE Women's Champion.

Fans then hoped to see the Limerick star finally locking up against Rousey in 2022 when the latter returned and won the Women's Royal Rumble Match.

However, Lynch argues the same dream match from 2019 "didn't have the same appeal" as she was already feuding with Bianca Belair in a rivalry that was "more interesting".

Therefore, Rousey lost to Charlotte at WrestleMania 38, while the Grand Slam Champion came up short against Belair who was one of the company's hottest rising stars.

The UFC great left WWE again in 2023 after SummerSlam where she lost to close friend Shayna Baszler.

Lynch told SunSport while promoting her autobiography ‘The Man: Not your average average girl’: “I think that the thinking was Ronda was gonna leave after WrestleMania [35] and it would be better to have two main eventers still in the company than one.

WWE 'promised' Charlotte vs Rousey

“And I don't know if that match had been promised to Charlotte that maybe it would be Ronda and Charlotte that Mania.

“And so maybe they felt like taking her out of that would be like they wouldn't be following through with their word.

“After she [Rousey] came back that second time, it didn't have the same appeal.

“And then when Ronda came back and they did Ronda and Charlotte - that year it had to be Bianca, it had to be Becky Lynch vs Bianca because we have to pay off that story. And that story was at that stage more interesting.

“After she [Rousey] came back that second time, it didn't have the same appeal. In terms of an individual match. There wasn't that mystique anymore.

“That was kind of dissipated a little bit. And so, it just wasn't there and there was no point in forcing it.”
