SAN Francisco 49ers star Brock Purdy has revealed he saved a news anchor from being eaten by a coyote during the most dramatic of commercial shoots.

Purdy was filming a commercial involving a John Deere tractor in the Bernal Heights Park area of San Francisco, California, in February.

Local CBS affiliate KPIX-TV anchor Sara Donchey was apparently strolling nearby, while a coyote was trailing behind close to her.

Purdy told the story while he was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show.

The NFL star was with a camera crew and his 49ers teammate Colton McKivitz.

"We're shooting this commercial on a hill on the outside of the city," Purdy said.

"I see this thing trotting by that has a big tail. I was like, 'That looks like a mini wolf.'

"No one else was gonna scream, so I screamed, 'Yo, there's a coyote!'

"That thing went running off. It could've been an ugly day on the shoot, but we saved her [Sara]."

There have been thousands of reports of coyotes being spotted in the San Francisco area over the last decade.

So it's clear that this wasn't just a mad isolated incident - the animals do live among people in the city.

Purdy is quite clearly one of the NFL's most valuable commodities. John Deere wanted in on the act on this occasion, inviting Purdy and one of his offensive linemen, right tackle McKivitz, to this shoot.

Purdy has been one of football's most talked-about players since he burst onto the scene during the 2022 season, getting his chance to shine due to other quarterbacks' injuries.

The 24-year-old seized his chance, inspiring the 49ers all the way to the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Purdy himself picked up an injury in that game too, ruining the hopes of the 49ers.

But he was once again one of the star performers in the 2023 NFL season.

He finished fourth in MVP voting with 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Purdy helped the 49ers to be once more one of the strongest teams in football. They finished the regular season with a 12-5 record, for first place in the NFC West.

Their playoff games in January could hardly have been more thrilling. In successive weeks, the 49ers had to produce comebacks, first when they saw off the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round.

Then they fought back for victory over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game.

But their season ended in ultimate heartbreak in February's Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

They were leading the Kansas City Chiefs at halftime in the NFL's biggest game.

But the Chiefs fought back to win 25-22 in overtime, leaving the 49ers broken by a second Super Bowl loss to Andy Reid's team in five seasons.
