A former NFL first-round pick will be on the open market after not receiving a bump in salary for the 2024-25 season.

The Washington Commanders reportedly declined the fifth-year option on linebacker Jamin Davis on Thursday.

Davis was picked by Washington with the No. 19 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.

And the 25-year-old Davis is set to be a free agent next offseason after the Commanders' decision to decline his fifth-year option, per Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala.

The report added that the move "should come as no surprise" as the option would make the defender one of the highest-paid linebackers by average salary in the NFL.

Davis had carried a $14.8 million option for the 2025.

The same report noted that new Commanders linebackers Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner are set to start over Davis.

Those moves were made by Washington's new general manager Adam Peters along with new defensive-minded head coach Dan Quinn.

The regime led by then-head coach Ron Rivera selected Davis three years ago.

Rivera was fired in January after a 26-40-1 record with the Commanders.

During his three seasons, Davis has appeared in 45 games with 36 stats.

He has posted 269 tackles, 10 quarterback hits, seven sacks and one interceptions.

However, Davis struggled in his rookie campaign, allowing a 85.7 completion percent in pass coverage.

The Kentucky product improved in the following two seasons.

Davis recorded 17 tackles for loss and six acks over the last two years combined.

He also forced two fumbles and totaled four passes defender.

Unfortunately, Davis went down with a season-ending shoulder injury in December.

Washington will be paying $4.3 million to the fourth-year linebacker for the 2024 season.

The Commanders move came the same day that they drafted quarterback Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

He won the 2023 Heisman Trophy with LSU Tigers.
