PATRICK Mahomes says Travis Kelce's party animal persona hides the mind of a genius.

The Kansas City Chiefs superstars form one of the most formidable partnerships in sports.

Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift has catapulted him to global fame as a fun-loving celebrity.

But Mahomes paid tribute to the tight end's intelligence.

The quarterback was asked if Kelce was his favourite receiver on the Impaulsive podcast.

"100 percent. Just a good dude man. He does such a great job of getting himself open, he replied.

"He understands, he's smart. He puts on a persona of partying and drinking but he's really super intelligent.

"He gets on the football field and gets open and I just know where he's going to be. Our friendship kinda built naturally, he's kinda like me.

"He's friends with all his boys he grew up with - I'm friends with all the boys I grew up with.

"We're all just one big friend group. I go on golf trips with some of his buddies without Travis there, it's that kind of group we've got going.

"I'm gonna keep him around a couple more years for sure."

Asked if could keep up with Kelce's partying, Mahomes made an honest admission.

"No. I cannot," he said.

"I used to I think and then I had kids and you hear my voice now. I left early every night."

Chiefs coach Andy Reid recently signed a contract that keeps him in Kansas until 2029.

Defensive standout Chris Jones has also agreed a multi-year extension.

And Kelce reportedly agreed a deal that will make him the NFL's highest-paid tight end.

The three-time Super Bowl champ is not the only tight end to have his intelligence put under the microscope this week.

Rob Gronkowski caught some strays ahead of Tom Brady's eagerly-awaited roast.

Roastmaster General Jeff Ross, 58, appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show to discuss 46-year-old Brady's comeuppance.

But it was Gronkowski, 35, who ended up taking some flak.

"He keeps asking me if he can introduce Best Supporting Actor.”
