A 23,000-seater stadium has been designed following the club's incredible rise to the Premier League.

It will be situated in the heart of Luton town centre, just over a mile away from Kenilworth Road.

But in order to go ahead with the build, the River Lea will have to be rerouted.

Full plans to reroute the river have been lodged with Luton Borough Council by 2020 Developments Limited, on behalf of Luton Town.

Sean McGrath, director of professional services firm WSP, said: "Works are necessary to the River Lea to ensure commercial and residential developments can progress.

"The works will require detailed engineering and hydraulic modelling, which will be agreed with the Environment Agency.

"Talks have begun, but it could be some time before the final course and form of the river is fully understood."

Outline consent for a mixed-use development on the land was granted in 2019.

Current planning permission allows for the stadium as well as leisure, entertainment and community facilities and up to 1,200 homes to be built.

Luton Borough Council are expected to consider the project in due course.

Devastated Luton boss Rob Edwards left in TEARS as West Ham loss leaves club all but relegated from Premier League

The Hatters are set to be relegated from the Premier League this weekend.

Luton's fate was all-but confirmed following a 3-1 defeat to West Ham on Saturday.

It means all three clubs that were promoted last season will return to the Championship.
