COLDPLAY paid tribute to Luton Town with a new song at the weekend - but some fans were far from happy about it.

The band headlined BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend on Sunday at Stockwood Park in Luton.

To close the festival, frontman Chris Martin took centre stage to sing a new song dedicated to the town titled 'Orange' - the colour of Luton's home kit.

Hatters fans had initially wanted Coldplay to change the lyrics to the song 'Yellow', which is a colour synonymous with the club's arch rivals Watford.

But instead, Martin sung: "It’s hard to be a football fan here in Luton town. Sometimes you do the best you can, still you find you’re going down.

"We didn’t win all our matches, we didn’t win the Cup.

"But when you get knocked down in Luton, you always get back up."

The official Luton Town X account shared a clip of the song online.

A post also read: "Coldplay just said they love us 😁."

Some fans loved the tribute, with one person commenting: "RELEASE THE SONG."

However, others were not so complimentary, with one person saying: "Please don’t put that on ever at one of our matches next season. It’s absolutely tragic."

While another commented: "This is absolutely tragic and embarrassing."
