With the Dodgers up 9-3 in the top of the eighth inning, Mets pitcher Lopez threw a 2-1 slider to Dodgers star Freddie Freeman, who nearly swung at the pitch.

The Mets catcher pointed to the third base umpire Ramon De Jesus to ask if he thought Freeman swung, and the umpire deemed it not a swing.

That appeared to not sit well with Lopez, who barked at De Jesus.

The two yelled at one another until Lopez ejected Lopez out of the game.

Lopez was frustrated with the call and walked off the mound and into the dugout, but not before chucking his glove into the stands.

It wasn't clear what Lopez said to get himself thrown out of the game.

The Mets' TV broadcast commented on the situation as SNY play-by-play man Gary Cohen told TV viewers that he believed Lopez was sent to the clubhouse early.

"De Jesus has a short fuse," Mets icon and TV analyst Keith Hernandez said on the broadcast.

Lopez then walked off the mound and tossed his glove over the netting into the stands.

The glove landed toward a sea of Dodgers fans.

And a fan was seen raising his fan in celebration of grabbing the souvenir.

"That’s where the Mets are at right now. It’s not a good optic,” Hernandez added.

Hernandez was referencing the eighth inning as well as the 2024 Mets season.

New York and Los Angeles were tied at 3 entering the eighth inning when reliever Adam Ottavino gave up two runs.

He was replaced by Lopez, who allowed four more runs including a two-run home run from superstar Shohei Ohtani.

The Mets entered Wednesday losing the previous two games to the Dodgers - both coming in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

New York has a disappointing 22-33 record, and 19 of their losses have come in the month of May.

The Mets announced earlier on Wednesday that two-time All-Star closer Edwin Diaz, who's had an awful campaign thus far, has been placed on the 15-day IL due to shoulder impingement.

And New York star first baseman Pete Alonso left Wednesday's game after being hit in the right hand after attempting to check his swing on a pitch.

The Mets are fourth in the NL East and are just three games up on the last-place Miami Marlins, who are currently in sell-mode.
