Who is Donald Sterling's wife, Rochelle Stein?

Billionaires Donald Sterling and Rochelle Stein have been married for nearly 70 years, having wed in 1955.

Per the Los Angeles Times, the pair was "dedicated business partners who worked hand in hand to amass a real estate fortune" during their decades-long marriage.

Rochelle co-owned the LA Clippers alongside her husband until he was forced to sell the team in 2014 after a recording of his racist remarks came to light.

As NBC News reported, then-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer purchased the Clippers for $2 billion.

Donald's "companion," V. Stiviano, "made a recording of him ranting about her showing up at Clippers games with African-American men," the outlet states.

Per the publication, Donald "admonished her not to bring her black friends to any more games — a broadside that Sterling later tried to explain away by saying he was jealous seeing younger men with his paramour."

The racist recording led to the sale of the Clippers, a $2.5 million fine, and Donald's lifetime ban from the NBA.

While he could no longer attend NBA games, Rochelle acquired two courtside Staples Center (now called Crypto.com Arena) seats and another 10 seats "elsewhere" in the arena.

"She is a fixture at games, intensely knowledgeable about the Clippers and the rest of the league, according to those who have attended with her," NBC News reported in May 2017.

At the time, Rochelle and her lawyer fought to have Donald's lifetime ban lifted. However, it seems the ban is still in place as of June 2024.

Sailing Ahead: The LA Clippers' Bold Rebrand Journey

"I couldn't understand the severity of the ban. It just seemed a little bit out of line. I have talked to [the NBA] several times and I don’t know what they will do. Maybe they will and maybe they won’t [lift the ban]. Maybe it takes a little bit more time," Rochelle said, per the outlet.

While Donald had previously referred to the NBA as "a band of hypocrites and bullies" after he had to sell the Clippers, he seemed to have moved on when speaking with NBC News in May 2017.

"I am as happy as I have ever been. I am as comfortable as I have ever been. And I don't want to do anything to disturb that," he said.

As ABC News reported, Donald filed for divorce from Rochelle in 2015, citing irreconcilable differences in paperwork submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court. He also said they had been separated since 2012.

However, in March 2016, the Los Angeles Times reported that the couple chose to call off the divorce.

"Notwithstanding all the difficult events of the last two years, the Sterlings have resolved their differences," Donald Sterling's attorney, Bobby Samini, wrote in an email to the publication.

How many children do Donald and Rochelle have?

Donald and Rochelle have three children together.

Their kids include daughter Joanna Sterling Miller, son Chris Sterling, and son Scott Sterling.

According to People, Scott died of a drug overdose at age 32 in December 2012 "after injecting narcotics that were intended to [be] taken orally."

What is Clipped and how can I watch?

Clipped is an FX miniseries that focuses on scandals involving the LA Clippers, including then-owner Donald's racist comments.

The six-episode television program is based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast The Sterling Affairs and takes viewers "behind the scenes of a notorious NBA owner's racist remarks, captured on a tape heard around the world," per its description.

It also "charts the collision between a dysfunctional basketball organization and even less functional marriage, and the precipitating tape's impact on the ensemble of characters striving to win against the backdrop of the most cursed team in the league."

Clipped premiered on Hulu on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, with the first two episodes now available on the streaming platform.
