Tatum's contract reportedly includes a player option and a trade kicker.

The agreement means the freshly crowned NBA champions have now handed out nearly $1 billion to their starting five.

Jrue Holiday received a four-year, $134.4 million deal during the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Meanwhile, Derrick White is said to have agreed to a four-year, $125.9 million contract just hours before the news of Tatum's deal broke on Monday.

That's $919.4 million committed by the Celtics to their starting lineup only over the next five years.

Tatum, 26, averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 49 assists during the 2023-24 regular season.

The 6-foot-8 forward then logged 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.1 steals during Boston's championship run in the postseason.

His all-around game in the NBA Finals series with the Dallas Mavericks earned him four of the 11 votes in the Finals MVP voting.

Brown eventually received the award after the Celtics beat the Mavericks in five games.

Boston's spending spree comes after the franchise's owners announced earlier on Monday they would make the team available for sale.

"The controlling family of the ownership group, after considerable thought and internal discussion, has decided to sell the team for estate and family planning considerations," they said in a statement.

The managing board of the Celtics majority ownership group expects to sell a "majority interest" in the organization either this year or early 2025 with the balance closing in 2028.
