The former US Open champion overcame nerves to beat Renata Zarazua 7-6 6-3 in round one, before breezing past Elise Mertens 6-1 6-2.

Yesterday she laid down a further marker, by dumping out ninth seed Maria Sakkari for the loss of just five games.

Raducanu last played the Greek star in her US Open semi-final back in 2021.

On that occasion she beat Sakkari 6-1 6-4... for the loss of five games.

Spotting the similarity with yesterday's 6-2 6-3 win, tennis author Bastien Fachan wrote on social media: "2021 US Open - Emma Raducanu drops five games to Maria Sakkari, wins the tournament

"2024 Wimbledon - Emma Raducanu drops five games to Maria Sakkari…"

He then added: "Emma Raducanu + Daniil Medvedev 2024 Wimbledon champions confirmed."

Getting excited, a fan pointed out: "Also played a lucky loser in the first round at the US Open."

Raducanu faced lucky loser Zarazua on Monday after Ekaterina Alexandrova pulled out due to illness.

At the US Open in 2021, it was Swiss Stefanie Voegele that she beat in round one.

Emma Raducanu makes winning Wimbledon return

Another fan wrote: "She actually has a chance, been playing well."

While a further social media user pointed out: "Don’t jinx it!!! But…. Point by point, Emma is looking fantastic."

Raducanu's draw has opened up, with several seeds in her section already out.

Alexandrova and third seed Aryna Sabalenka withdrew after the draw had been made.

While eighth seed Zheng Qinwen lost to qualifier Lulu Sun, who Raducanu will play in round four tomorrow.

Another potential Raducanu opponent Daria Kasatkina lost to Paula Badosa yesterday.

While 28th seed Dayana Yastremska fell to Donna Vekic on No1 Court last night.

Should she beat Sun, Raducanu will play the winner of Badosa and Vekic in the quarter-finals.

Coco Gauff could then be lying in wait in the semis, with the reigning US Open champion in formidable form.

Raducanu is in the opposite half of the draw to the likes of Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina and Ons Jabeur, meaning she can't play any of them until the final.
