Obama personally greeted players including LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant ahead of their journey to Europe.

He surprised the team as they made preparations for a warm-up game with Canada in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"I just want to come here to obviously send off the soon-to-be gold-medal winners," Obama said, via USA Today.

"I’m pretty confident that they’re going to be bringing back the gold and representing us the way we should be represented around the world."

A viral video of Obama's meet-and-greet with players saw him individually address each down a line.

He hugged and gave multi-layered handshakes to a number of players, invigorating memories amongst fans of a Key & Peele skit from 2014.

In the skit, Jordan Peele plays the role of Obama after giving a presidential address.

He moves down a line of supporters, hugging and handshaking with the black members of the audience and giving polite handshakes to the white onlookers.

"Obama broke out the old Key and Peele playbook," joked Barstool Sports.

"It is literally exactly how the skit went. Wow," laughed one fan.
