NFL star who has earned $62million in career already ruled out for entire 2024 season due to little-known rule

Saints coach had previously cast doubt on player's involvement in new campaign

NEW Orleans Saints star Ryan Ramczyk has been ruled out of the entire 2024 NFL season.

The right tackle was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list by the Saints.

If that is done before the final roster reduction, it means a player is out for the whole campaign.

This could spell an end to Ramczyk’s career, which has all been with the Saints since he joined in 2017.

Ramczyk has earned $62 million in his NFL career.

The Saints restructured his contract in May, freeing up cap space for this season.

The 30-year-old is guaranteed $6.5 million this season, lowering his cap hit from $27 million to $12.29 million for 2024.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen said at the NFL's annual league meeting in March that Ramczyk's knee was not recovering as quickly as hoped after an offseason procedure.

"He just isn't quite where I was probably hoping he'd be, and really quite frankly, where he was hoping he'd be," Allen said.

"We'll see how it goes over the next three, four, five, six months, whatever that is, before we get to the beginning of the season."

Sadly, the player didn't recover enough for it to be feasible for him to play in the upcoming NFL season.

The news was reported on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

"Clarity on #Saints OT Ryan Ramczyk, via the NFL rules: He is now out for the season, officially, after being placed on reserve/PUP today," Rapoport posted.

"Why? A vested veteran placed on Reserve/PUP prior to the final roster reduction is out for the season.

"Players placed on Reserve/PUP at the final roster reduction will miss at least 4 games."

Ramczyk is a terrific talent when clear of injury, as he showed when earning All-Pro honors from 2018-2020.

But injuries have sadly plagued him over recent years.

Ramczyk has had just 38 starts in the last three seasons.

The Saints finished with a 9–8 record in the 2023 NFL season, for second place in the NFC South.

That wasn't good enough to make the playoffs, and fans will undoubtedly be hoping for an improvement in the 2024 campaign.
