Mahomes restructured the contract last offseason to create cap space for the Chiefs' latest Super Bowl push.

The 28-year-old currently takes home an average of $52.6 million per season, per ESPN.

Despite the eye-watering sums, Mahomes now earns less per annum than Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa and Green Bay Packers star Jordan Love.

Tua inked a four-year, $212.4 million extension earlier this month, while Love has signed a four-year, $220 million deal in Green Bay.

It catapults the pair into the top-five earning QBs annually, with Love level on $55 million per year alongside Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow and Jacksonville Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence.

"It's awesome for the game of football," Mahomes told USA Today, in response to his rivals getting a pay-bump.

"It's awesome for the quarterback position, but I think all positions."

"I know every time a contract comes up, everybody looks at my APY [average per year] and everything like that," he continued.

"I'm doing pretty well myself. For me, it's just about going out there trying to win football games, trying to make money for my family at the end of the day.

"I feel like I'm doing a great job of that."

When Mahomes signed his mega contract four years ago, it was the largest in American sports history, per Fox Sports.

Despite being passed in annual value, Mahomes is still set to take home $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026.

That sum is the highest amount across any quarterback in the league over those three seasons.

"I think we do a great job of managing my money, to be able to pay me a lot of money and keep a good team around me," Mahomes continued.

"I know we've kind of restructured it a couple of times and got the cash flow up in certain spots and certain years.

"It's about having a good dialogue, good communication with the front office, with ownership. We've done that here.

"And as we've been able to allow me to be a highly paid guy while at the same time build a great team around me."

The Chiefs are targeting a historic threepeat in the upcoming 2024 campaign.

Mahomes and the rest of his teammates returned to training camp last week ahead of the big kick-off on September 5.
