AARON Rodgers appears to be considering giving an autographed ball to an opponent when the new NFL season kicks off.

San Francisco 49ers star Charvarius Ward has said he'd love to an autographed ball from Rodgers if he picks up an interception from him in the week one meeting with the New York Jets.

Rodgers, 40, was asked about it by Kay Adams this week and he initially said, "No" flat out.

But a short while later, he seemed to backtrack on that.

"I don't know, that would be a little weird," he said.

"You know what, I'd probably do it.

"If I was a fifth or sixth week player, I'd probably say, get the hell out of here.

"But now in my old age and maturity, maybe I'd sign it for him."

Cornerback Ward was on the Up & Adams show in May when he spoke of a wish to receive an autographed ball from Rodgers.

"Hopefully, Aaron Rodgers throws me one. That’s a Hall of Famer. That’s a legend," Ward said.

"I’m trying to pick him off and then have him sign the ball for me."

The attention on Week One of the NFL season is always huge.

But there will be something extra riding on the Monday Night Football game between the Jets and 49ers on September 9th after what happened a year ago.

The hype over Rodgers making his Jets debut was enormous in the fall of 2023, after his switch from the Green Bay Packers.

Rodgers had established himself as an all-time great of the sport after nearly two decades with the Packers.

But it all went so horribly wrong in the meeting with the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.

Rodgers injured his left ankle on just his fourth offensive snap after being sacked by Bills' defensive end Leonard Floyd.

The following day, Rodgers was diagnosed with an Achilles tendon rupture.

He ended up missing the whole campaign, as the Jets went 7-10 in the regular season.

As for Ward and the 49ers, they'll be hoping to go one step further after another agonising near miss last season.
