In a statement, the Chargers said that Herbert "was diagnosed with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot" after Wednesday's practice.

As such, he will have to wear a protective boot for around two weeks, after which he will be able to ease his way back onto the field.

All signs point to Herbert being good to go come Week 1.

Naturally, this news prompted some dire predictions for Los Angeles from X users.

"Seasons over, 2025 here we come," one proclaimed.

"I'm not even a Chargers fan. I just like watching good football. This sucks," said a second.

"One of the worst nagging injuries you can have," claimed a third.

While another added, "We just can't have good things, right? There's always something."

Through four seasons since he was drafted sixth overall out of Oregon, Herbert has only missed six games - four of which were in 2023.

During that time, he's thrown for 17,223 yards, 114 touchdowns, and 42 interceptions.

In 2023, Herbert penned a new deal with the Chargers worth $262.5 million over five years.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh will now have to work with his three backups: Easton Stick, Max Duggan, and undrafted rookie Casey Bauman.

Stick filled in for Herbert last season, starting four of his five appearances during which time he threw for 1,129 yards, three touchdowns, and a pick.

The Chargers went 0-4 during Stick's run as the starter.
