The sport sees four canoes tipped off a 5m high platform and race down and a 210m course.

They have to perform a 360 degree roll at below a beam at one point and go around gates - either backwards if they are red or forwards if they are green.

Aside from that and the fact you can't deliberately smash an opponent with your paddle - anything is pretty much allowed.

However, there was huge controversy as Franklin was disqualified.

She was deemed to have not completed a full roll, with the 30-year-old devastated over the decision.

Team GB launched an appeal but it was unsuccessful.

But there was some joy in the event as Kimberley Woods won a bronze medal.

And Joe Clarke went one better to win silver in the men's final.

Fans love the crazy sport, with it compared to "Mario Kart in boats".

Another added: "I put on kayak cross thinking it was just a little boat race and then everybody did a barrel roll under a limbo stick and I lost my mind."

More reacted: "Watch the kayak cross finals now it is jokes."
