The US had the opportunity to start anew in the quarterfinals, knocking out China 21-13, and setting up a semifinal against Spain.

However, the title defense wasn't to be for the US, who lost 18-16 in a controversial game on Monday.

This will come as a huge disappointment for the US, whose lineup includes two members of their World Cup-winning team from 2023 - Hailey Van Lith and Cierra Burdick.

Cameron Brink was also selected to return before she suffered a torn ACL while playing for the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks in June.

While a fourth reiterated, "The USA women 3x3 got cheated!"
