Phil Simms makes shock move to rival network from CBS for NFL preseason games as viewers gasp ‘that’s hyped’
WITH the new NFL season fast approaching, we'll soon be listening to those familiar voices on their usual networks.
NFL fans can sometimes be given a preseason surprise however, and that's certainly been the case with a move for Phil Simms.
Simms was let go by CBS in the spring after more than a quarter of a century there.
Now the former New York Giants star will be on the call for two preseason games for the team.
Simms will be in the broadcast booth alongside Bob Papa and Carl Banks on FOX 5 NY.
They will call games against the Detroit Lions on Thursday and the Houston Texans next week.

Fans have been quick to have their say on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.
"That’s hyped!" one fan said.
"Welcome back," another fan said.
"Very good voice, this is a nice move," a third fan said.

Former quarterback Simms was with the Giants from 1979 to 1993.
He was named MVP in the Giants' Super Bowl victory over the Denver Broncos in 1987.
And be has called eight Super Bowls in his stellar broadcasting career.
Simms began broadcasting in 1995 with ESPN and quickly moved on to NBC.
He joined CBS in 1998 and had been there ever since, until earlier this year.
Simms became best known for working on the CBS pregame show, The NFL Today.
He played down any disappointment he may have felt by being let go in the spring.
“I’m as happy as I’ve ever been in this business,” Simms said.

With this season's schedule now revealed, eager NFL fans are looking to secure tickets to their favorite games.

As for the Giants, their fans will be hoping for an improvement on the 2023 NFL season.
They finished with a regular season record of 6-11, for third place in the NFC East.
